What do you do as a consultant/coach?

I train supervisors on how to be better supervisors who focus on the mission, bring self-awareness and inclusive practices to the table, set clear expectations and know how to give clear and actionable feedback.

I am also an author of two books: Leading for Justice and Supervision Matters.

What is your approach?

My trainings are interactive and work with clients and organizations where they are. Practices are based in awareness of white supremacy practices and the importance of disrupting dominant culture practices without losing sight of the importance of accountability and support.

How has your experience/background contributed to your work?

Growing up the youngest of six kids in a low-income family, I often had the experience of feeling unseen and unheard. I became very focused on hearing and seeing others – as individuals and within the groups that we live and work in.  This led me eventually to recognize the uneven playing field that we call “equal.”

I have worked with colleagues for over 20 years to understand the ways that our culture discriminates, excludes and perpetuates the dominant culture and the value of my work as a white woman in dismantling that structure.

With a background in human resources and training in organizational psychology, I wove those practices together in my business doing coaching, consulting and training. I worked with non-profit organizations throughout the country to improve the culture and practice of supervision, thereby helping the organizations to be more effective.

I have taught HR in a Nonprofit at the University of San Francisco and Sonoma State University in California.

I have also written two books: Leading for Justice: Supervision, HR and Culture and Supervision Matters.
