What do you do as a consultant/coach?
I provide small social justice organizations with the HR and people operations support they need to move work forward and impact change. My areas of practice include thoughtful and rigorous hiring processes, equitable compensation and pay practices, people-centered policies and performance assessment processes, informative job descriptions, and sharing guidance around roles and staffing structure.
What is your approach?
I believe in the transformative potential of organizational effectiveness to provide shared clarity, purpose, and direction, even in the face of tremendous uncertainty. I believe that values-aligned work starts with ourselves, how I approach my projects, and how we all engage our teams, partners, and collaborators. I aim to be effective and efficient while also allowing for a grounded, spacious, and intentional pace for change. I also strive to keep things accessible and approachable, while honoring the complexity we must hold in all of our work for equity and justice. Actively including staff in people operations design ensures that those most impacted have opportunities for input and are centered in systems on which their everyday experiences—and often livelihoods—depend.
How has your experience/background contributed to your work?
Growing up in Kentucky and North Carolina, I developed an early awareness of my own race and class privilege. It is through those who have guided, challenged, and loved me that I have grown to better understand the role I and my people have to play in our larger, shared struggles, and I have been drawn to ways to further justice in everyday spaces. Having spent 15+ years supporting nonprofits and small businesses focused on making the world a better place, equipping the teams that most need capacity for their vital work holds a special place in my heart.
