What do you do as a consultant/coach?
My areas of focus include: Campaign Strategy (issue-based); Political Education Curriculum Development; Trainings on Organizing; Organizational Development, including Membership Structures, Comprehensive Assessments, Building healthy and sustainable organizational cultures; Strategic Planning; Board Development; Staff Development; Meeting and Retreat Facilitation; and Leadership Coaching.
What is your approach?Â
I founded Catalejo in 2021 as a consulting and coaching practice that builds long-term relationships with organizations working toward liberation from oppression. Catalejo builds on more than 25 years of social justice organizing and organizational development, offering wrap-around and targeted support for resilient, visionary, and strategic leaders, teams, and organizations that contribute to a robust and powerful movement for progressive social change.
How has your experience/background contributed to your work?
Since the early 2000s, I have worked at the intersection of racial, economic, and gender justice. I have played multiple leadership roles in grassroots organizations and multi-sector coalitions, including as executive director.
As the daughter of a domestic worker, I am especially proud of co-leading efforts to pass the nation’s first Domestic Workers Bill of Rights in New York State. As a native New Yorker, I also helped to co-lead the largest unprecedented campaign and coalition against police brutality, winning historic legislation and organizing citywide mobilizations that led to key systemic changes.
Transitioning to the national landscape, I worked at the Center for Popular Democracy and Mijente. Currently, in addition to leading Catalejo, I serve as a Senior Program Director at the Center for Empowered Politics (and Education Fund), a practitioner-led movement capacity organization that trains and develops new leaders of color to grow their power building and co-governing infrastructure.
