Outsourcing Back-Office Services in Small Nonprofits: Pitfalls and Possibilities

This report summarizes information gathered from a survey of Meyer Foundation grantees about how they manage “back-office” functions such as administrative, finance, human resources, communications, information technology, and other organizational infrastructural needs. The report examines the conditions under which certain approaches work well and barriers that prevent organizations from taking advantage of alternative approaches to handling various back‐office support functions.
