Important Update on the DOL’s New Overtime Rule

Dear Friends,

On Tuesday, November 22, 2016, Judge Amos L. Mazzant III, of the Eastern District of Texas ruled to suspend implementation of the Department of Labor’s new overtime rule, which would have extended overtime payments to millions of employees on December 1st.

Now, what are you going to do? Don’t throw away your plans, yet. The Labor Department disagrees with the ruling and is looking into legal options to challenge the decision.  Your organization may have made adjustments to salaries and budgets based on programmatic priorities and the old effective date for the Overtime Rule.  Taking back raises already promised could be discouraging to staff. If you have not made adjustments, however, you may want to consider other steps you can take while we wait and see how the incoming administration will handle this matter.

RoadMap will keep watching, and we’ll be in touch with new developments as we learn more.
