What do you do as a consultant/coach?
I work with small and mid-size organizations on developing vision and strategy, on increasing internal alignment behind powerful and clear goals, and on building the skills of staff to manage nonprofit administration while leading small teams capable of making big impact. I thrive supporting leaders and teams that are collaborative, and that prioritize a healthy internal culture as much as they prioritize rigor in moving towards their mission. As a consultant, I have worked with local base-building organizations, foundations, labor, international organizations and coalitions, as well as in individual 1-on-1 coaching.
I love to facilitate spaces that are generative, and that result in concrete outcomes that can move an organization forward. I also enjoy supporting organizations in skill development: particularly around increasing emotional intelligence and navigating conflict internally. My passion is supporting the wisdom and leadership of QT and BIPOC visionaries.
What is your approach?
I focus on building resilient organizations. I’m committed to deep transformation and abolition as an “organizing vision, strategy, and practice” (Mariame Kaba), and enjoy the challenge of working within our current change vehicle of non-profits to move towards this.
I’m also a part time therapist, and I believe that our organizations are only as healthy as the people inside of them. While our collective work may hold systemic change at the center, I believe it is possible for them to also be a source of personal growth, healing, community building, and preservation of our cultures.
I draw on my personal experience as well, as queer, nonbinary, mixed-race and second gen. I am passionate about nurturing the wisdom and leadership of QT and BIPOC visionaries, and enjoy working with organizations that hold a liberation and intersectional lens.
How has your experience/background contributed to your work?
I have worked for 20 years in labor, non-profit, and community organizations in the US, Mexico and Central America, including as Organizer, Deputy Director, Executive Director, and Founder. I’ve worked on legislative, ballot measure, and corporate campaigns on LGBTQ+ issues, immigrants’ rights, and prison abolition, as well as in program development, leadership development, and community organizing. In the past 5 years, my movement role has shifted from front-lines organizer to consultant, supporter, coach, and healer, and I’m honored to use my skills to support efforts to bring more joy and justice to our communities.
